Frequently Asked Questions

We believe in complete transparency here with pricing and our policies. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

1. What is Tax Relief?

The Internal Revenue Service understands that things happen to people. The Fresh Start program was created to help people who owe more in taxes than they can pay. The IRS wants to work with you and we help you with the paperwork to get the relief you deserve and have a right to.

2. What is an Offer in Compromise?

An Offer in Compromise is the program you see television ads for. This is the program where you can potentially pay pennies on the dollar for your tax debt.

The way it works is that you fill out a form for the IRS which lists what your assets are and what your income is. The IRS has a fairly simple calculation that tells them what they can expect to receive. If this is less than what you owe, you qualify for an Offer in Compromise.

3. Can I really do this myself?

Absolutely. I have worked for companies that charges thousands of dollars for this service and claim to be able to work the numbers. While this is possible in some cases, 90% of the time you either qualify or you don’t. All you need is help filling out the form and help assembling your documents.

5. How much does this cost?

Our fees range from $295.00 for our lowest level to $495.00 for our most popular program. There is also an option for a full service suite for $995.00 but that is unnecessary 99% of the time.

There are other fees however. The IRS charges $186.00 for an Offer in Compromise application. That fee is waived if your income is low enough.

You will also need to mail your documents to the IRS and state. Depending on how much documents are required, you will have to pay $7.75 – $22.00 for postage to each tax body.

6. How do I know if I qualify?

The first step is to fill out the Offer in Compromise Pre-Qualifier. If you qualify here, you are a good candidate for our service. Once you fill out the questionnaire, our CPA and Enrolled Agent will confirm that you are a candidate and what your offer will be.

7. How much can I save?

No one can answer this until they have your financial information. If anyone says they can, they are lying to you. I have seen people save tens of thousands of dollars and others not save anything. The issue is whether you qualify. The numbers are the numbers.

8. What if I haven’t filed all my tax returns?

You do need to file all your tax returns to qualify for an offer in compromise. We can help you with that for prices starting at $100.00 per year including e-filing.

9. What if I don’t qualify?

Most companies will leave you high and dry at this point. Owe Less will tell you how to proceed through the three other options you have. We will give you the paperwork to request a designation of currently not collectible where you make no payments, a partial payment installment agreement where you pay less than what you owe until the statute of limitations runs out, or a simple payment plan.

10. What if my paychecks are garnished or my bank account is levied?

There is nothing more stressful than having your paychecks garnished however it is not the end of the world. The IRS is just trying to get your attention when they garnish your paycheck.

Here is the dirty secret of the tax relief industry. None of this is very hard. All you need to do is to call the IRS Collections Unit at (800)829-7650 and tell the people there that you are working on a payment plan and request 60 days to do so. That is all the people who costs thousands of dollars are doing. If the State of California is calling, you just call (800)338-0505 and do the same. You are going to have to pay something but they will give you breathing room 95% of the time.

11. Where are you available?

Right now, we are only available for California. We are hoping to spread soon to the states without income taxes such as Texas, Florida and Washington. The rest of the states will follow based on demand.
